Learn More about BeHeadStrong’s Patient Support

Our Story
In 2003, JR Waisner and Rob Mullin met at a brain tumor event in Kansas City. What began as a chance meeting quickly developed into a deep friendship, forged through a shared fight against brain cancer. JR was nearing the end of his journey while Rob was just beginning his. Their wives, Jennifer and Gail, understood the overwhelming financial and emotional strain that families face when illness disrupts everyday life. Medical expenses, reduced income, and the need for constant care can make even basic costs feel insurmountable.

Before JR passed away, he expressed one clear wish: to create an organization that could provide financial relief and hope to families affected by brain tumors.

From that vision, BeHeadStrong was established.

For more than twenty years, BeHeadStrong has provided vital assistance to brain tumor patients and their families in the Kansas City community. Through help with medical co-pays, groceries, rent or mortgage payments, car expenses, and end-of-life arrangements, the organization continues to ease burdens during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Although JR and Rob are no longer with us, their legacy endures in the mission and work of BeHeadStrong. Each act of assistance honors their vision of compassion, community, and strength. With continued support, BeHeadStrong will carry this mission forward—helping patients and caregivers face the challenges of brain cancer with dignity and hope for years to come.
